Each start to the US session is a chance to assess whether there is a bullish or bearish sentiment in the markets, which could potentially lead to a breakout of the initial balance range. In the US session, the initial balance (IB) is the high and low range of the first hour of trading and after market makers, funds and speculators have done their business, there tends to be a directional move initiated by the breakout of the range. The highest probability move is a 50% extension of the IB. A full-extension or measured move is also likely during trending markets, but we’re not in one of those at the moment.
