Also, there was a strong rebound in sales of automobiles, communications equipment, and tobacco &amp; alcohol.<\/p><p>Meantime, sales growth slowed for both furniture and <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3ZbUSus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oil<\/a> products, amid further declines in sales of home appliances, office supplies, and building. Considering the first three months of the year, retail trade expanded by 5.7%<\/p><p>Asian equities did attach some themselves to some optimism from <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3ySSMoB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wall Street<\/a> overnight, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3yEJ0Gm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nikkei<\/a> up 0.6% on the day. The Shanghai Composite is flattish, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3lWg2Mz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hang Seng<\/a> is keeping lower by 0.7% despite the upbeat data domestically.<\/p><p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2yFD0hu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aussie dollar <\/a>is the only currency seen slightly higher, also reacting to the RBA minutes, which suggested that the central bank was &#8220;considering&#8221; a rate hike at its April meeting two weeks ago.<\/p><p>It is interesting to note that they did &#8220;<em>consider<\/em>&#8221; a rate hike earlier this month but let&#8217;s be real, actions speak louder than words, especially at this point in the tightening cycle.<\/p><p>The Minutes revealed that the \u201c<em>Board considered rate hike in April, before deciding to pause<\/em>\u201d and the RBA \u201c<em>Agreed that there is a stronger case to pause and reassess the need for tightening.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The market mood remains off, despite China&#8217;s Q1 GDP data and retail sales numbers for March impressed but that wasn&#8217;t enough to get markets excited to start the day.
