US stocks are down for again today due to poor earnings data during the US session. Notably, the Nasdaq<\/a> is taking it on the chin again and is down for a third straight trading session.<\/p>

Shares of Shopify are down 12% today and weighing very heavily on the Nasdaq index more broadly. Basically, the company sent a memo to employees today saying that roughly 1000 of them, or 10% of the company’s global workforce, would be laid off.<\/p>

Shopify took the opportunity during the earnings call to also warn about slower consumer growth, this is a big reason why the company\u2019s stock is trading down $5.60 or at $31.13.<\/p>

Walmart<\/a> has shares are trading down $10.60 or -8.03% at $121.51 after warning about growth going forward. Some minor good news as Coca-Cola<\/a> is trading up $0.92 or 1.48% at $63.05 after reporting better company earnings.<\/p>

Amazon<\/a>, another part consumer company is also down $-3.65 or -3.03% at $117.46. While McDonald<\/a>‘s, a huge leading indicator in terms of consumer spending is trading down $1 or -0.40% $249.46.<\/p>

Earnings-per-share from the fast-food chain beat estimates today, but revenues were lower than expectations. Food outlets have had to raise prices this year to deal with rising inflation.<\/p>

We have also seen a downgrading of growth from the IMF which further dents sentiment, and also more weak housing data from the United States economy ahead of the FED meeting tomorrow.<\/p>

Breaking down the International Monetary Fund news, they cuts2022 and 2023 global growth forecasts and says downside risks remain. They see 2022 growth at 3.2% vs 3.6% in April.<\/p>

The IMF also sees 2023 growth at 2.9% vs 3.6% in April, and 2022 China GDP 3.3% vs 4.4% in April. They also predict Eurozone 2022 GDP 2.6% vs 2.8% in April: 2023 1.2% vs 2.3% in April.<\/p>

The IMF Chief economist says world ‘may soon be teetering on the edge’ of recession. They also see US GDP at 2.3% vs 3.7% in April 2023 GDP at 1.0% vs 2.3% in April and Japan growth 2022 to 1.7% vs 2.4% in April.
