The US dollar index<\/a> is approaching a critical juncture on the foreign exchange and the Singapore Monetary Authority kept interest rates and monetary policy unchanged today. Ahead of today\u2019s inflation report, it could be a good time to look at the USDSGD<\/a> pair.<\/p>

As China gathers increasing influence over the Hong Kong\u00a0banking sector,\u00a0capital outflows have been seen moving into Singapore as the country enjoys free capital markets, economic success and stability.<\/p>

When the USDSGD starts to trend it typically means that a directional trend is here to stay. Simply put, the typical average daily trading range\u00a0on USDSGD does not usually exceed 80-100 pips. However, when a large trending move does ensue on USDSGD it is a great indicator that the USD is going to make a huge move.<\/p>

Additionally, when you see the USDSGD pair really trending in one direction and breaking key technical levels\u00a0because it indicates genuine buying or selling interest taking place<\/p>

This could be for a variety of reasons, such as the Singapore dollar\u00a0is the chosen Asian safe haven economy by many of the Asian elite, as it has gathered a reputation\u00a0as\u00a0the financial hub of Asia.<\/p>

Many wealthy individuals across the world, banks, and even corporations choose Singapore for its lower tax rates and high standards of regulation. It is therefore possible to say that the Singapore dollar has a safe-haven element to it.<\/p>

Because of the stability of the country and relatively stable economic performance of Singapore, we rarely see the currency driven by political uncertainty. One word describes the Singapore dollar well, Stable.<\/p>

Sentiment is also on the side of a swing traders as 68% are becoming too bullish, meaning that a one-way skew is started to develop. At the moment, I do not see the sentiment becoming that large, however, it should be acknowledged.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

USDSGD Short-Term Technical Analysis<\/strong><\/p>

The four-hour time frame shows that a large head and shoulders pattern appears to have developed, and it appears that a final right-hand shoulder is forming to complete the pattern.<\/p>

A move under the 1.3500 level is currently needed to activate this large bearish price pattern, which currently holds downside potential of around 180 points.<\/p>

It is noteworthy that significant amounts of bearish MACD price divergence have formed during the latest price rise and extends towards the 1.3380 support area.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

USDSGD Medium-Term Technical Analysis<\/strong><\/p>

The daily time frame shows that the USDSGD pair is trading well above its 200-day moving average and is trading close to multi-year trendline resistance.<\/p>

However, a large head and shoulders pattern is also present. The USDSGD has two possible scenarios, with a break above the 1.3680 level needed for a bullish breakout, while failure around the 1.3600 to 1.3620 area is likely to kick start a bearish reversal towards the 1.3500 level.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
